Collection: ABSTRACTIONISM

Why do we often remain doubtful when faced with an abstract work and feel like we don't fully understand it? And why are we unconsciously captured by this type of representation at the same time?
In his book Art and Neuroscience: A Comparison of Two Cultures , Nobel Prize winner in medicine Eric R. Kandel uses the word “reductionism” to refer to the activity of breaking down complex concepts and forms into their essential components: scientists use reductionism to solve a complex problem, while artists exploit it by reducing images to their essential elements of shape, line, color, or light.
The works in this section dedicated to abstraction , spatialism and optical art will inevitably evoke emotions. Memory, attention, expectations and visual associations that each of us has learned and internalized will, however, attribute to the same concept various additional and very personal meanings. By interpreting what we see in a subjective way, we will contribute to "creating" the work of art. Our brain, that is, will take the work and complete it in its own way to give meaning to what we see.
