Tristan Tzara, whose real name was Samuel Rosenstock, wrote this text in 1945 when he was in the psychiatric ward of Saint-Alban, in the Lozère département, not because he was being treated, but because some doctors around François Tosquelles gave refuge to Jews and Resistance fighters.
