Collection: Renoir Pierre Auguste
(Limoges 1841 - Cagnes 1919)
Pierre-Auguste Renoir is a French painter, considered one of the greatest exponents of Impressionism, who participated in numerous collective exhibitions of the group (Salon de Paris, Salon des Refusés, Salon des Artistes Français, Salon d'Automne). Attracted by feminine beauty, he made this interest the distinctive feature of his work, becoming the painter of women in full bloom, a tender portraitist of childhood, as well as one of the greatest masters of color.
From 1881 he travels to Italy and Algeria with the idea of clarifying his aesthetic ideas. In 1883 he confesses to having reached the end of impressionism and begins the period called "ingresco" and, if at times he approaches the principles of impressionism, he does so in a very personal way.
His health worsened and in 1911 he was struck by a paralytic crisis, which caused him to give up walking altogether. Unable to hold his brushes in his hands, he had them tied to his wrists in order to continue painting.
