Splendid performance in the second state out of two according to White & Boon, from the Basan edition. In excellent condition with a margin of 1 to 2 millimeters all around beyond the copper imprint.
Attention is focused on Jesus. The brightly lit body of Christ hangs lower than the other two with the result that His arms are stretched upwards, forming a 'V' which frames the face and crown of thorns. Below, four figures under the cross of Jesus, with their heads almost hidden by a veil. In this work Rembrandt does not show who the Mother of Christ is among the characters present. Various other characters with different postures both in the foreground and background, brought together in the drama. On the right, beyond a bent horse, you can see a thin spear or spear.
